The Bei Shan Tang Doctoral Thesis Grant (the "Grant") is a thesis writing grant. The Grant awardee must have completed all thesis-related research, data collation and field trips prior to the commencement of the Grant.
The applicant must be a PhD candidate whose dissertation topic is pertinent to traditional Chinese art.
The Grant awardee must engage in full-time thesis writing and complete the dissertation within the Grant period. The maximum Grant period is 12 months.
Priority will be given to outstanding candidates with financial need.
Applicants must not concurrently hold any other fellowships, scholarships or grants.
There are no restrictions regarding the age, nationality and gender of the applicant.
2) two recommendation forms, one of which must be filled in by the applicant’s thesis supervisor (please note that the Foundation has a strict policy on the submission of an altered, non-authentic, or unauthorized letter of recommendation).
All application materials must be sent by email to dtg@beishantang.org with the subject line “Bei Shan Tang Doctoral Thesis Grant (Your full name)”. Recommendation forms must be submitted directly by the referees.
A confirmation email will be sent to acknowledge receipt of an application.
Applicants are evaluated based on the merits of their research proposal, the feasibility of the proposed time frame, the recommendation letters from the applicants’ thesis supervisors and referees, as well as their financial need.
The grant duration and amount are decided on a case-by-case basis by the selection panel based on the topic and proposed timeline of a dissertation project.
